Hunan Face with the Oakland Bootie

I added some backside to Mao. Acutally, I also added his junk, but it seems inappropriate to post that here.

Naked Mao?

I got an odd request. I tried to make a naked madden trophy for a fantasy football league. A friend saw that and requested another naked trophy for fantasy football. Instead of Madden, he wanted Mao. I aim to please...

Bunnies make terrible technologists

This was a birthday gift I made for a friend of mine who is a nuclear medicine technologist. The character comes from a videogame.

Kim Jong Il Ornament -- Done!

New Project: Kim Jong Il

It has been awhile. I haven't made anything out of clay since June. I found what to make next though:

Last Naked Madden Post

Well, I decided not to finish the naked Madden trophy. It is not in good taste for a work environment. When I first made it, I just didn't think it was particularly funny, but now every time I come home and naked Madden is standing on my desk, it makes me laugh. So here's a final picture of it. I'll probably take apart the body to reuse the clay, keep the face, and just make a more reasonable, fully dressed body. But here's my favorite angle:

Christmas Tree Ornaments

I'm a little stuck on the Madden figure, so I took a break and worked on some rat ornaments. I like how they turned out; they make great present topper.

New Idea: Madden

Last year I made a Trophy for my work's fantasy football league. I've been asked to make another one this year.

My idea for this year is to mix Madden (because he's so recognizable and kinda funny looking) with the Heisman trophy. My first idea was pretty out there, as in a naked Madden in the Heisman pose. Upon reflection, I realized that may not be work appropriate, although I still love the idea.

So my second draft idea is Madden, fully clothed =( in the Heisman pose all of it in bronze clay color. My concern with this idea is that it may look like an african-american Madden wearing brown clothing, which would be confusing. We'll see how this goes.

Grace with body

Here's Grace with with her body. That's rough draft hair on, just so she doesn't look bald. I'll make her hair and dress tomorrow.

Grace, a little more fleshed out

Here's a 2nd draft. I'm working on it still, I know that it's not looking too close to grace right now; I'm tweaking it still

Note to self:

FimoSoft Sahara color is a great skin tone. It's a good base to use to create any skin color

Starting my clay cake toppers

I'm starting my clay cake toppers (a little late - I only have 2 weeks left!). I'm trying to get my skin color right, but it's proving to be really difficult. Here's a picture of the color I made (I spent 30 min on this!) and it's just not right. It looks okay in the picture but in real life it looks ashen and a bit purple. I'll go to the store and buy "tan" color and mix it with some "flesh" color. They need "Filipino" color! I'll post the progress on these clayguys. I've made 2 attempts at making my face, but they look horribly unlike me. I'm trying to make one that looks horribly like me.

Update

I haven't been playing with clay much lately. I got a new camera and I'm working on learning the basics of photography. But I'm going to start a large clay project soon. I'm going to make clay cake toppers for my wedding. It should be a pretty in depth project and with my new digital camera, I'll make sure to document it properly.

Buddha drinking tea - Final

Here's the final Buddha. Posted by Hello

Buddha Idea

This is an idea for a gift I wanted to make. There's a tea shop near my work that I go to every day. The owner is this really nice lady; she's like my mom there. I thought it'd be nice for me to make her a little Christmas present, so I found this cute looking Buddha picture and want to make a figurine. Posted by Hello

Project Rat

I'm going to make a clay rat for my boss. I think I want a desktop style figure of a rat, but I'm not sure what kind of style yet. Realistic or simple/stylized. We'll see.

Project Christmas Cards

My idea for christmas cards this year is a little clay rat (very simple design) glued to the card. I've made a sample already, but I've thrown it away before taking pictures. I'll post a card tomorrow, I think I'll have some done then.

Project Baby Elephant

One of my friends loves cute little animals. So for Christmas I'm thinking of making her a baby elephant, cause what's cuter than that? No seriously, is there anything cuter than that, cause then that's what I'll make instead. I mean, I'm looking to pander here and get a cheap "that's a great present cause it's cute," so if a baby elephant doesn't do it, what will?

Here's a side-by-side Posted by Hello

Nixon. He needs some water in his jar, I'm still trying to figure out what to use for that... Posted by Hello

Nixon

I've finally finished the futurama inspired President Nixon's head in a jar clayguy, but I left my digital camera over at my cousins. I'll post a picture as soon as I get my camera back, or as soon as I can borrow a camera. The nixon is a small piece, but I like it. I finally managed to use one of those small glass jars I had laying around.

Next Clay idea - incredibles

I just watched The Incredibles. I loved it, of course. I want to make a clay Mr. Incredible, but I want to make the scene where he is at his insurance office barely fitting in the chair. I can't seem to find a picture of that scene on the internet, and I can't start until I can find a few pictures. Anybody seen some pictures of that scene?

Packaging draft picture

This is a draft of the packaging that I'm making for my clayguys. I don't know how I'm going to make the plastic holder part, or even how I'm going to laminate the box to make it look like a real action figure box. But I'm working on it. This election stuff is just killing me though... Posted by Hello

Packaging

I'm working on packaging for the kerry bush figures. I want it to look like the packaging for action figures. I have a draft printed out. It was harder to make than I thought, and I still don't know what I'll use for the plastic part of the package. I'll post a picture of what I have tomorrow.

Madden

The clay Madden trophy was well recieved. Some people really liked it, others were luke warm. A common comment was that he was way too skinny. I guess I wouldn't really know, because I don't watch all that much football. But overall, I'm happy with the finished product.

Bush v. Kerry Final picture

Here's a final view of the bush and kerry figures. I want to make some sort of packaging, but that will be a later project. Posted by Hello

Madden Trophy picture

I added the plaque. Now the picture is final. It took me a total of about 3 hours. Posted by Hello

Final Madden Trophy picture

This is the final product. I was surprised that I finished it in one sitting. I'm happy with how it turned out. I'll post a few more pictures of it later, the photo program is giving me some techinical problems right now. Posted by Hello

Madden idea

I've been commissioned to make a prize for a fantasy football league. Here's a page from my sketchpad. I ruled out making a large trophy, but I think I'm gonna make John Madden holding a mini trophy on a stand. We'll see Posted by Hello

Kerry and Bush in Suits picture

This is kerry and bush with their presidential bodies. They don't stand up well, so I need to make some sort of support for them. Another project for me, I guess. Posted by Hello

Futurama project idea

Next on the list of projects, famous people's heads in fishbowls, ala futurama. I have the glass jars already, I was just waiting to find a use for them. Posted by Hello

Enter the Dragon picture

This is the action shot of the figures. I want to work on packaging next, as well as regular presidential bodies with suits and debate podiums. Posted by Hello

This is my John Kerry head 1st attempt. I like it more than my George Bush. Posted by Hello

Bush's Head another pic

Okay, I think that this looks better in person, that's why I'm posting so many pictures. I'm trying to show you guys what it really looks like. But maybe I'm just deluding myself... Posted by Hello
